Lenten Blogging: Day Eleven

Today's Question: "What are you more comfortable with - routine and planning, or laissez-faire spontaneity?"

Those who know me well can answer this question easily. I will answer it with a ditty from my Drill Instructor:

"Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance." (You probably knew this as "The 5 P's," but for Marines there are 6. Can you guess which "P" is extra?)

I feel much more secure when things are planned out and scheduled, even minor things like going to the mall or something. It's not that I don't like spontaneity, I just think there is a time and place for it. And oddly enough the time and place for spontaneity can be (and should be) planned out.

Planned spontaneity! What a novel and considerate idea.

This allows you to say, "Do whatever you want until ____ and then meet me here."

Every human should be so considerate. The world would be a much more fluid place if everyone had a plan.

Are there moments when we will have to deviate from said plan and forced into spontaneous action? Yes. But if prepare and plan for deviations you will be ready. This is best exemplified by the Navy Seals. They may be caught off guard, but you better believe they are prepared and will quickly have a plan for action.

So to answer the original question, I am more comfortable with routine and planning.

Tomorrow's Thought: "You've been asked to a five-minute presentation to a group of young schoolchildren on the topic of your choice. Describe your presentation."
