Why Should He Not Use Us?
I am reading a biography of D.L. Moody called Moody Without Sankey, by John Pollock. Like George Müller, Hudson Taylor, CT Studd, Dallas Willard, and countless more, Moody's life inspires me to be more for God. There is one question in particular that made me put the book down to reflect. On page 119 of this edition it reads,
Varley said, "Moody, the world has yet to see what God will do with a man fully consecrated to Him."The phrase startled. Moody made no comment at the time but devoured Varkey's words, sucked at them, digested, regurgitated them for days and weeks: "The world has yet to see what God can do with and for and through a man who is fully and wholly consecrated to Him... A man! Varley meant any man. Varley didn't say he had to be educated, or brilliant, or anything else. Just a man. Well, by the Holy Spirit in me I'll be that man."
If you know anything about D.L. Moody, you'll know that he made that a mission statement for his life. He sought to show the world what a persons life looks like when their heart was wholly consecrated to God. And even though the world has seen such a life in Jesus Christ, the challenge is still open for our generation to see it first hand, is it not? When Moody was writing about this in his journal he recorded these words, "if God could use Spurgeon, why should He not use me?"Well, "If God could use Moody, why should He not use me? Why should He not use us?"He will. If we desire it.
