The Ends of Trust and Worry
I'm still hanging out in Psalm 37. This morning verses 3a & 8b, taught me well. 3a: "Trust in the Lord, and do good..."8b: "Do not fret (worry) -- it only leads to evil."Fretting is the kind of constant worrying that leads to anxiety. The reason fretting leads to evil is because the actions emerge from a place that doesn't believe that God is in control, and/or doesn't believe that God is good, and/or doesn't believe that God can be trusted. Any action that comes from that place will be because of a lack of belief in God. It will cause one to take ones life into their own hands, and act from a place of self-reliance, which is always evil. Conversely, when a person trusts in the Lord they believe that God is good, trustworthy, and in control. When ones actions emerge from a place like that, the actions will be good, because they will be in response to ones belief about who God is. The 8b person lives with confidence in the self. The 3a person lives with confidence in God. Lord, enable us to be Psalm 37:3a people today.
